Our Why

Firefighting involves various aspects of physical fitness, including;

  • cardiovascular endurance
  • muscular strength and endurance
  • power
  • agility
  • flexibility

However, despite the physical strain firefighting places on the men and women who choose this profession, the vast majority of current career and volunteer firefighters fail to maintain the needed levels of physical fitness to function safely and efficiently while on duty.

Studies show that cardiac incidents and over-exertion are the leading causes of on-duty firefighter deaths.

 

Why is that?

As public servants, being physically fit and ready to serve the people of our community is the standard. If we aren't training and pushing ourselves to exceed that standard, what justice are we doing the people we serve?
